Chux Gilbert Okonkwo ESQ.

Mr. Okonkwo holds an LL.B (Hons.) and LL.M degrees of the University of Lagos, Nigeria. He also holds a Diploma in Business and Industrial Law (DBIL), and an Advanced Diploma in Commercial Law and Practice (ADCLP) from the same University.

Mr. Okonkwo was admitted to the Bar of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria upon his successful completion of the course of studies approved by the Nigerian Council of Legal Education. He worked with the West African Examination Council (WAEC) for over a decade before joining McCarthy Mbadugha, SAN & Co.

Mr. Okonkwo worked with McCarthy Mbadugha, SAN & Co. for a period of five years before joining Chicason Group as the Company Secretary/Legal Adviser. While in Chicason Group, he worked in Ghana, Sierra Leone, Senegal and Guinea-Conakry particularly in the Oil & Gas arm of the Group.

After a little over two-year stint at Chicason Group, Chux returned “home”, as it were, to the firm of McCarthy Mbadugha, SAN & Co. and joined the Oil and Gas Practice Group of the firm.


Mr Okonkwo is a member of the Nigerian Bar Association and Centre for Oil Pollution Watch among several other associations. He has attended several international seminars and conferences. He currently heads the Oil and Gas Practice Group of McCarthy Mbadugha, SAN & Co. and his areas of interest are:
